Velma Mills age 86 of Perry passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at the Mercy West Lakes in West Des Moines, IA. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at 10:30 AM at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Violet Hill Cemetery at Perry, IA. Memorials may be given to the family and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home. 


Velma Jean Mills was born on August 19, 1930 at Polk City, IA to Herman and Rose (Moore) Foshe. She graduated from Granger High School. Velma was united in marriage to Donald E. Mills at United Brethren Church in Granger, IA on August 5, 1950. She worked in the Vocational Rehabilitation Department at the Woodward State Hospital, and after her retirement, owned a ceramics shop.

She was a member of the Perry Bible Church. She enjoyed collecting antiques and collectables, loved playing cards, and enjoyed music and reading.


Velma was preceded in death by her husband Donald E. Mills, parents, Herman and Rose Foshe, a sister, Linda Bustad, and a son-in-law, Jack Polski.


She is survived by her children, daughter, Diana Polski of Waukee, IA and a son, Steven and wife Heather Mills of Chatham, IL, five grandchildren; Jason, Ryan and Nathan Fitzsimmons, Clark Mills and Dr. Bridget Jones, and 3 great grandchildren, siblings, Darlene Malone of Earlham, IA, and Dennis Foshe and his wife Irene of Coon Rapids, MN.
