Ronald "Ronnie" Gilliland age 77 of Perry passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017 at the Perry Lutheran Home in Perry, IA. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Perry. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Burial will be in the Violet Hill Cemetery at Perry, IA. Memorials may be given to the family and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home.


Ronald "Ronnie" D. Gilliland was born on March 17, 1940 in DeSoto, IA and was the son of Harry and Phyllis (Swihart) Gilliland. He attended school at Perry High School. Ronnie was united in marriage to Carol Gardiner at United Methodist Church, Perry, IA on August 30, 1957. He worked as welder for the Wiese Corporation for 42 years. Many of those years he was the welding supervisor.


He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Perry, IA. Ronnie served for several years as a Boy Scout Leader, and several of those boys became Eagle Scouts. He coached softball, loved to roller skate, was a Dare Devil, flew an ultra-lite airplane, and rode a motorcycle.


In death, he rejoins his parents Harry and Phyllis Gilliland, sister Shirley Bills and brother-in-law Chads Bills.


Left to cherish Ronnie’s memory are his wife Carol Gilliland, children, Leah (Jim) McWilliams, Des Moines, IA, Chuck Gilliland, Perry, IA and Ron (Keela) Gilliland, Jr., Glendale, AZ, siblings, Susan Klassen, Arnolds Park, IA, Bobby Gilliland, Jefferson, IA, 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandsons.
