Rita Ringgenberg, age 88 of Council Bluffs and formerly of Perry, passed away on Saturday, September 03, 2016 at the Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs, IA. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 07, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Burial will be in the Violet Hill cemetery at Perry, IA. Memorials will be given to the Perry Bible Church and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home.


Rita Irene Ringgenberg was born on December 11, 1927 North of Perry, IA to John Richard and Clara Jane (Fessler) Hawn. She attended school in the Grand Junction school system from 1932 to 1936 and then finished her education at Perry Community schools, graduating with the class of 1945. After graduation, she became a telephone operator at the Northwestern Bell offices in Perry.  She was united in marriage to Raymond Ivan Ringgenberg on January 31, 1949. Together they operated Skelly Oil Tank Service until 1971 when Raymond passed away. Later, she worked at the Fouch Funeral Home as the receptionist, and lastly she worked at the Places Family Center as a Department Head. She retired in March of 1992.


She was a member of the Perry Bible Church. She enjoyed raising a garden, assisted many others, and traveled the globe. Rita also loved to cook, which is why she had a large recipe and cookbook collection.


She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Clara, husband Raymond, son Kenneth Ringgenberg, and a brother, Clarence "Jack" Hawn.


She is survived by her son, Al (Jackie) Ringgenberg, Council Bluffs, IA: daughter-in-law Carol Ringgenberg, Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Christopher (Kimberley) Ringgenberg, Elgin, IL; Cassandra (Bobby) Baskett, The Colony, TX; Matthew Ringgenberg, Council Bluffs, IA; and Alexander Ringgenberg, Council Bluffs, IA; and twin great grandchildren, Braxton and Jackson Baskett.
