Paul R. Mickelson, age 87 of Dallas Center, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at the Mercy Medical Center - Westlakes in West Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 16, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery at Minburn, Iowa. Memorials will be given to the family and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home.
Paul Raymond Mickelson was born on March 20, 1929 at Perry Iowa to Anton Marinus and Jane Lund Mickelson. He attended school at Alton Country School. He was united in marriage to Eleanor Darlene Anderson at her parent’s home near Bouton, Iowa on June 2, 1951. He served his country in the Korean Conflict. Following his military service he returned home and farmed the remainder of his life.
He was a member of the Minburn United Methodist Church. He was also a 50 year member of the Minburn American Legion Post #99 from 1962 to 2012 and then the Woodward American Legion Post #211 beginning in 2013. He enjoyed woodworking, doing etchings on glass, making novelty items and loved giving the items he made to his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers and 6 sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Mickelson, Dallas Center, IA, children, David (Pam) Mickelson, Bouton, IA, Daryl (Kathy Klatt) Mickelson, Perry, IA, Nancy (Brad) Kiefer, Ogden, IA and Norma (Rob Wolfe) Carlson, Woodward, IA grandchildren, Matthew Mickelson, Andrew (Kelly) Mickelson, Jason (Angela) Mickelson, Nathan Mickelson, Chad (Erin) Spellman, Emily (Matt Merrick) Kiefer, Evan Kiefer, Ben Carlson and Brent Carlson, great grandchildren, Eily Mickelson, James Spellman and Jackson Spellman sister, Dulcie Taylor, Woodward, IA and several nieces and nephews.
