May Catherine Axtell, age 83, of Madrid, IA, passed away on Sunday February 24, 2019 at the Madrid Home for the Aging in Madrid. Funeral services will be held on February 28, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bethel Church, Boone, IA. Visitation will be on Wednesday February 27, 2019 from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Carris Family Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Burial will be in Grange Cemetery near Logan, IA following the luncheon. Memorials will be given to Awanas at Bethel Church or the Telephone Pioneers and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Online condolences may be sent at,

       May Catherine Axtell was born on May 13, 1935 at Mondamin, IA to John William and Mary (Brandenburg) Fox. She graduated from Missouri Valley High School. She was united in marriage to Earle Gene Axtell on December 11, 1953. May worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Missouri Valley, then Omaha, on to Carroll and then back to Omaha retiring in 1991.

     May was a member of the Bethel Church where she served as Church Secretary for eighteen (18) years after moving to Woodward. She enjoyed Awanas, her Bible Study Group, playing cards and her grandchildren.

      In death she rejoins her husband Earle, parents John and Mary, step-mother, Nellie Fox and brothers, Kenneth, Harry and Lester Fox.

     Left to cherish May’s memory are her daughter, Linda (Keith) Tingwald, Woodward, IA, grandchildren, Kristen (John) Finical, Villisca, IA, Garrett (Dawn) Tingwald, Woodward, IA, and Courtney (Dan) May, Corydon, IA, great grandchildren, Ella and John Finical and Evelynn and Colton Tingwald, and sisters, Betty Vollers and Judy (Pete) Smalley along with a brother, Jerry Fox.
