Marvin "Marv" Hartz, age 83 of Perry, passed away with his family by his side on Friday, September 9, 2016 at the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in Perry, IA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Perry. Visitation will be on Friday, September 16, 2016 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Memorials will be given to American Diabetes Association, 4430 114th St, Urbandale, IA 50322 and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home.


Marvin "Marv" Richard Hartz was born on February 4, 1933 at Garrison, IA to Donald and Edith (Raymond) Hartz. He graduated in 1950 from High School at Maynard, IA. He later graduated in 1954 from Iowa State University. He was united in marriage to Barbara Jane Nichols at the Westminster Presbyterian Church at Des Moines, IA on August 7, 1954. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He worked at Oscar Mayer, Brenton Bank and the Community State Bank Paton, IA.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church Perry, IA and the AGR Fraternity in Ames, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Edith Hartz and an uncle Merlin (Lorraine) Raymond.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Hartz, 3 children, Jane Babcock, West Des Moines, IA, Bill (Jenifer) Hartz, Columbia, MO and Carol (Bill) Werner, Overland Park, KS, 8 grandchildren a brother, James Hartz, Cedar Falls, IA and numerous relatives and friends.
