Jerry "Buddy" Payton age 68 of Omaha and formerly of Perry and Lake Panorama, passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at his home in Omaha, NE. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Perry. Visitation will be on Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Burial will be in the Violet Hill cemetery in Perry at a later date. Memorials will be given to PAWS, (People for Animal Welfare Society, P.O. Box 135, Jefferson, IA 50129) and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent at

Jerry "Buddy" Ray Payton was born on March 25, 1948 in Perry, IA to Kenneth Marvin and Lois Eileen (Carpenter) Payton. He graduated from Perry High School in 1966 and then attended Ellsworth Community College at Iowa Falls, IA. He was united in marriage to Deborah Gilbertson on December 24, 2001. Buddy spent his career in the retail industry serving as a senior executive at K-Mart, Michael’s, Wal-Mart, Creativity, Inc., and Widget Products. For the past 8 years Buddy was an entrepreneur as the President of Jerry Payton & Associates. Throughout his life time he lived in many different places including: Omaha, Lincoln, Perry, Lake Panorama, Los Angeles, Bentonville, St. Louis, Chicago, Des Moines, Texas City, Atlanta, Toronto and Dallas.

Buddy enjoyed playing golf, boating and feeding the birds. He loved getting together with friends and playing cards. He also liked motorcycles, cars and sporting events of all kinds.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Lois Payton and his grandparents, Daniel and Edith Carpenter and Raymond and Mildred Payton.

He is survived by his wife Deborah Payton, Omaha, NE, children, Todd (Kari) Mosser, Lincoln, NE, Matt (Jennifer) Mosser, Omaha, NE and Mitch (Samantha) Mosser, Omaha, NE, grandchildren, Lauren and Charlie Mosser and Brinley Kingston, all of Lincoln, NE, Max and Dane Mosser, Neal Major and Maddux Mosser all of Omaha, NE, siblings, Steve Payton, Boone, IA and Cheryl (Louis) Swanson, Jefferson, IA, nephews and nieces, Scott (Jane) Swanson, Omaha, NE, Nicole (Nick) Arringdale, Boone, IA, Amy (Dennis) O'Brien, Cornelius, OR and Stephanie (Scott) Moore, Mission Hills, KS, great nephews and nieces, Mallory and Cody Swanson and Britney and Jacob Costello all of Omaha, NE, Ajay, Beau and Taylor Arringdale all of Boone, IA, Sean and Rory O'Brien of Cornelius, OR and Caroline and Annabelle Moore, Mission Hills, KS and numerous cousins.
