Billie Weddle, age 89 of Dawson, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the Panora Nursing & Rehab Center in Panora. IA. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Dawson United Methodist Church in Dawson. Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Burial will be in the Dallas Township Cemetery near Dawson, IA. Memorials will be given to family and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home.
Billie Everett Weddle was born on September 7, 1926 at Dawson IA to Cecil Everett and Letha Julia Combs Weddle. He attended school at Dawson. He was united in marriage to Mary J. Cofer at the First Christian Church, Perry, IA on June 11, 1949. He began working at the Weddle Garage in Dawson before joining the Navy in 1944. After being discharged he returned home and began working for Kelleher Motors in Perry and also B.D. Laughery in Bayard. He moved to Cheyenne, WY and worked for Terrill Motors for a short time before moving back to Iowa to work for the Dallas County Road Department.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Dawson, IA, the Rippey American Legion Post #583 and the Dawson Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, small motor repair, feeding the birds and watching wildlife. He lived in Dawson most of his life and knew a lot of town history and enjoyed telling stories. He also liked to have fun and was a jokester.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary J. Cofer, son, Jesse Weddle, daughter-in-law, Suzy Weddle, son-in-law, Ben Tunink, grandson, Christopher Ross Weddle, granddaughter, Heather Jo Lewis, great granddaughter, Kiersten LaValle, siblings, Jack Weddle, Melvin Weddle, Paul Weddle, Doreen Cofer and Linda McAfee.
He is survived by his children, Ross Weddle, Perry, IA, Susan (Dale) Higgins, Grand Junction, IA, Joni McAllister, Ames, IA, Carol (Terry Kenan) Tunink, Grand Junction, IA, Kevin Weddle, Nevada, IA and Marsha (Dennis Moranville) Thompson, Grand Junction, IA 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren brothers, Elliot (Carol Ann) Weddle, Pat (Helen) Weddle, Bob (Carolyn) Weddle and sisters, Mary Lou Jackson, Carolyn (Jack) Myers and Donna Sue McCleary.
