Richard “Dick” Allen age 65, of Perry died on Monday, December 5, 2011 at his home. Funeral services will be held, at 1:00p.m. Friday, December 9, 2011 at Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 8, 2011 with the family present from 6:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Carris Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. Memorials may be given to Dallas County Conservation and may be left at the Funeral Home.

Dick was born on July 28, 1946 in Perry, IA to Glen and Velma (Snyder) Allen. After attending Perry High School, he joined the Iowa National Guard and served from 1964 to 1970. On September 30, 1967, Dick married Betty Hall in Adel, IA. He worked for Oscar Mayer from 1964 until 1989 when the company ceased operations in Perry. After Oscar Mayer, he operated Dick’s Flooring from 1989 until his retirement in 1999.

Dick was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. In his youth, he was involved with raising and showing pigeons at the Iowa State Fair. Dick was a member of the Moose Lodge in a Perry and also coached girl’s ASA softball. In later years, he enjoyed working in his garden and baking cookies but his greatest joy was his grandkids.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Velma and Glen Allen, and his brother, Russ Allen.

Dick will be lovingly missed by his wife of 44 years, Betty, son, Todd Allen of Perry, daughter, Kim Allen (Mike Miller) of Bouton, grandson, Mason McAtee of Bouton, grandson, Ben Miller of Bouton, brother, Gary Allen of Pocahontas, sister, Beverly Kaplan of the Bahamas, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and all others who knew and loved him.
