Donald Holcomb age 79, of Perry died on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 29, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 28, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Carris Family Funeral Home. A private family burial will be at the Woodward Cemetery in Woodward.   Memorials may be given to the family and may be left at the Funeral Home.

          Donald Myron Holcomb was born on December 11, 1931 at Cedar Rapids, IA to Lloyd Myron and Edna Mae (Gladson) Holcomb. He graduated from Perry Community High School in 1949. He started attending Drake University in Des Moines, IA before serving in the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman and Lab Technician. After returning home from the Navy he completed his degree from Drake University. He then returned to Perry and joined the family business (Holcomb Pharmacy). He also worked at Dallas County Hospital, and pharmacy consultant for Perry Nursing Homes as a Pharmacist for 36 years. He married Delores Marilyn Challands Holcomb on April 27, 1951 at the First United Methodist Church in Perry.

          Donald was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He loved his family, friends and his dog Sophie. He loved growing roses, helping fund drives for the community and a member of the Perry Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, an avid reader, traveling in his GMC motor-home, riding motorcycles and boating. Most of all he loved cooking for his family, Kiwanis Pancake Day, and the Masonic Lodge fish fry.

          Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Edna Mae Holcomb, daughter, Lori Ann Holcomb and a son, Mark Alan Holcomb.

          Survivors include his wife, Delores Holcomb, Perry, IA, daughter, Deb VanGundy and husband Ron of Perry, IA, son, David Holcomb and his wife Candy of Bagley, IA, daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Holcomb of Perry, grandchildren, Amy VanGundy and husband Matt Nerdahl, Travis VanGundy, Mollie and Sam Holcomb, Travis Spence and Nicole Spence, and Kassie and husband Austin Munoz, great grandchildren, Caleb Spence, Cameron Spence, and Audriana Munoz and other relatives and friends.
